Mpox lesions on a tattoo

We report the case of a 31-year-old transgender woman living with HIV (CD4 count 140 cells per μL, undetectable viral load). She had her arm tattooed by an unofficial home tattoo worker. A skin lesion appeared in the contralateral axilla 5 days later; ten pustules with a necrotic centre appeared a day after the lesion in one flare-up on the tattoo ( figure 1 ), leading the patient to seek medical attention. A positive PCR test for monkeypox virus from a skin swab confirmed the diagnosis.
