Abstract Pronounced model-observation discrepancies in the changes of tropical Pacific zonal sea surface temperature gradient during the satellite era imply systematic model deficiencies. However, the relatively short high-quality instrumental record hampers robustly determining the response of tropical Pacific sea surface temperature to greenhouse gas increases.

Abstract The polar regions have been undergoing amplified warming in recent years. In particular, Greenland has experienced anomalously warm summers with intense melt rates. We employ a surface radiation budget framework to examine the causes for positive and negative summer temperature anomaly events over Greenland from 1979 to 2021. We found a dominant contribution of the clear-sky downwelling longwave radiation and the surface albedo feedback to temperature anomalies.

Abstract It remains unresolved whether the La Niña-like sea surface temperature (SST) trend pattern during the satellite era, featuring a distinct warming in the northwest/southwest Pacific but cooling in the tropical eastern Pacific, is driven by either external forcing or internal variability.
