Abstract The ability of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) to adapt its growth behavior in response to host environments promotes survival against immune and drug stressors. However, how these behaviors shift at the single-cell level remains poorly understood. Here, we show that Mtb adapts to acidic conditions by increasing the proportion of bacteria in a growth-arrested state, rather than uniformly slowing the growth rate of the entire population.

Abstract Although the use of machine translation (MT) has been widely studied in second language (L2) learning contexts, the cognitive processes involved in L2 learners’ processing of MT output remain largely unexplored. Using eye-tracking technology, this study investigates how L2 learners of varying proficiency levels (high vs. low) process machine-translated errors under different text presentation formats (consecutive vs. simultaneous).
