There’s a version of this review where I open with a complaint about how crowded the Metroidvania space has gotten. How every other week there’s another indie studio promising interconnected maps, gated abilities, and hand-drawn art that “pushes the genre forward.” I’ve written that lede before. I’ve read it a hundred times.

There’s a particular tension in tactical roguelites that separates the forgettable from the magnetic: the constant negotiation between calculated positioning and chaotic improvisation. You think you’ve solved the puzzle, arranged your pieces perfectly—and then the game throws a wrench into your beautiful plans, forcing adaptation on the fly.

There’s a specific texture to the auto-battler genre that, when done well, creates this hypnotic push-and-pull between strategic deliberation and white-knuckle spectating. You agonize over positioning, over synergy choices, over which follower to bench—and then you hit go and watch it all unfold like a Rube Goldberg machine made of violence.
