Donald Alexander was cutting his grass in Brazoria County last summer when his riding lawn mower clipped the trunk of an oak tree that had been damaged by Hurricane Beryl. The blade struck the trunk, ripping off a piece of wood that pierced Alexander's shin like an arrow. "I literally felt like I got hit by a school bus," Alexander, now 77 years old, said. "I knew it was a serious situation." He looked down and saw his foot hanging from a strip of skin.
