If you've thought about getting an IUD but feel a little unsure, here are some considerations. An IUD, or intrauterine device, is a form of contraception that can be inserted into the uterus to prevent pregnancy. It's a small, T-shaped device that's unnoticeable once in place. There are two forms: copper and hormonal. Both impact the ability of sperm to reach an ovum, or egg. Copper is spermicidal, and hormonal IUDs release progestin, which thicken cervical mucus and thin the uterine lining.
