1. Introduction The Chauvet-Pont d’Arc cave is situated in France in the Ardèche valley near Vallon-Pont-d’Arc (44° 23′ 14′′ N, 4′ 25′ 07′′ E, Figure 1A, B, D). Discovered in 1994, it is universally known for the richness and the age of its Paleolithic paintings [Clottes 2001; Clottes and Geneste 2007; Delannoy and Geneste 2020].
