1 Introduction Sagittal split osteotomy (SSO) is one of the most commonly performed orthognathic surgeries, with or without upper jaw surgery. This procedure is versatile and can be used for correcting dentofacial deformities including mandibular prognathism, retrognathism, asymmetry, open bite, and skeletal malocclusions [1, 2]. Hugo Obwegeser introduced the bilateral sagittal split osteotomy in 1957 [2].
