An effort to strip the Metro Charter of its protections for auto racing at The Fairgrounds Nashville is on life support, at least for this year, as Davidson County Chancellor Anne Martin on Friday declined to dismiss a challenge of the petition effort. Kenny Byrd and Heidi Basgall earlier this year initiated a push to ask Nashville voters to remove language from the Metro Charter that requires racing to be conducted on the site and replace it with language guaranteeing affordable housing there.
