1. Introduction Despite the advances made in antibiotic research and intensive care therapy, septic shock continues to be a primary cause of death in intensive care units [1]. The organ structures most frequently affected are the lungs, heart, kidneys, gastrointestinal tract, liver, central nervous system, and coagulation network. Death often occurs due to the complete failure of one or more of these systems.
