1. Introduction For decades, the relevant literature has emphasized the important role played by critical thinking skills in decision-making processes. Originally a term coined by John Dewey [1] to denote an educational goal and seen as a scientific attitude or state of mind, the concept of critical thinking has been subsequently molded and used by scholars from various disciplines, such as cognitive psychology and philosophy [2,3,4].

Introduction The use of qualitative system dynamics (SD) has been the subject of multiple discussions among scholars in the field. For example, Wolstenholme and Coyle (1983) suggested that qualitative SD could be a rigorous approach to system description as an antecedent to simulation, and Coyle (2000) provides a list of additional papers that support this point of view.
