Introduction The use of qualitative system dynamics (SD) has been the subject of multiple discussions among scholars in the field. For example, Wolstenholme and Coyle (1983) suggested that qualitative SD could be a rigorous approach to system description as an antecedent to simulation, and Coyle (2000) provides a list of additional papers that support this point of view.
