1. Introduction A drought is a natural phenomenon that poses significant risks to social, economic, and environmental systems. In recent years, the demand for water has increased due to population growth and the expansion of sectors such as agriculture, livestock, energy, and industry. This increased use of water has led to a decrease in its availability. Additionally, climate change has worsened the frequency and severity of extreme events like droughts and floods.

3.7. Current Situation and Impacts on Agriculture The VBRC economy depends mainly on irrigated agriculture. The influence of water resources directly affects the regional economy. The water crisis in the Colorado river basin, mainly caused by a significant reduction in snowfall in Cordillera de los Andes, has resulted in a reduction in productivity of the area.
