Sunday, 13 September 2026 S&P 500 closed Friday at 7,657. Looks fine. But the 10-year Treasury yield, the interest rate the government pays to borrow for a decade, ended at 4.975%. That climbed nearly 2 tenths of a percentage point in 5 days. Brent crude settled at $104.61. Core monthly inflation printed 0.3% when economists expected 0.2%. Consumer confidence dropped to 47.8 against a forecast of 51. Wages grew 3.1%. Prices grew 3.4%. You lost ground. The Fed meets in 4 days.

Monday, 14 September 2026 The interest rate the US government pays to borrow for 10 years touched 5% during Monday's session. Settled at 4.962% by the close. You have not seen a 5 on that number since 2007. And the S&P 500 barely flinched. Down half a per cent to 7,620. Dow lost 152 points to 52,421. Nasdaq off 0.56%. But the VIX, which tracks how much volatility traders expect over the next month, jumped 8% to 17.1. Somebody is buying protection.

Tuesday, 15 September 2026 The interest rate the US government pays to borrow for 10 years touched 5% on Tuesday. Closed at 4.995%. That has not happened since 2007. And oil jumped with it. WTI crude rose 4.5% to $105.94. Brent hit $108.59. A Saudi pipeline has been shut since Saturday after a drone from Iraq, knocking roughly 4% of world supply offline. Three days now. Still not flowing. Stocks got squeezed from both directions. The S&P 500 fell 0.45% to 7,585.51. The Nasdaq dropped 0.78%.
