1 INTRODUCTION If a child treats a friend poorly, when might this interaction reflect the transgressor's personality? In what circumstances could a temporary state (e.g., hunger) cause the negative behavior? Children's reasoning about social interactions has been highlighted as an essential domain to improve our understanding of culture as part of individual development (Chen, 2012; McLean & Riggs, 2022).
