1 Introduction Transmission of infectious diseases such as COVID-19 has the potential to collapse the healthcare system, causing health, societal and economic problems (Kaye et al., 2020) (Wu et al., 2021). For that reason, modeling these diseases is critical to understanding how they spread and help decision-makers create policies to mitigate them.
