Psychological change processes in alcohol use disorder: A qualitative study of 5-methoxy- N , N -dimethyltryptamine (5-MeO-DMT) with cognitive behavioural therapy
INTRODUCTION Alcohol use disorder (AUD) [Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5)] is a major global public health challenge, with high prevalence, and substantial associated morbidity and mortality. In the United States, the 12-month prevalence of AUD is 16.7% for men and 10.4% for women [1]. In the United Kingdom (UK), the corresponding 12-month prevalence for alcohol dependence is approximately 6% for men and 2% for women [2].
5‐Methoxy‐N,N‐dimethyltryptamine (5‐MeO‐DMT) for alcohol use disorder: An open‐label, phase 2, proof‐of‐concept, clinical trial
INTRODUCTION Harmful alcohol consumption and alcohol use disorder (AUD) are major global public health concerns, associated with approximately 5% of the global burden of disease [1, 2]. In addition to the direct negative health impacts, AUD contributes to a high burden of mental health comorbidities, including depression, anxiety and increased risk of suicide [3]. In a meta-analysis of 33 studies from 2022, alcohol use was associated with a 94% increase in the risk of death by suicide [4].
