Rock the Park’s second night cancelled due to air quality concerns
Night two of Rock the Park will no longer go ahead as planned.
Open air burning is suspended in London, Ont.
Due to the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) reaching 10+ because of wildfire smoke, all open-air burns are suspended in the City of London. The ban takes effect immediately, as per the City of London Open Air Burning Bylaw. According to London Fire, “This measure is intended to help protect public health during poor air quality conditions. The suspension will remain in place until AQHI conditions improve and the restriction is rescinded.”
Air quality concerns continue across southwestern Ontario
Air quality remains an issue today with an orange alert from Environment Canada still in effect. “Smoke continues to move into southern Ontario. Forest fires in northwestern Ontario and a northwest wind bringing that smoke down … we are having some major issues in and around the region,” said CTV London Meteorologist Julie Atchison. Atchison said temperatures could be affected this afternoon, adding we may not get quite as hot as 29 degrees. Conditions should improve before the weekend.
Rock the Park night one ends before headliners take stage due to smoky conditions
Rock the Park has abruptly cancelled the rest of their night one acts, taking to social media to share the news. “As the impact and risk from the nearby forest fires and increasing smoke conditions continue to rise, both our team and the Lumineers have made the difficult decision to conclude the festival following Dylan Gossett’s performance,” Rock the Park said via Instagram The lineup for Wednesday included Valley, Michael Marcagi, Dylan Goddett, and The Lumineers.
Port Dover standoff ends with dozens of charges for one person
A police standoff in Norfolk County has ended with over 20 charges for one person. OPP were called to a Main Street address in Port Dover around 3:45 p.m. Saturday for reports of a barricaded individual. According to police, their investigation determined a couple was involved in an altercation, during which one assaulted the other, causing minor injuries. Police say the same person then pointed a gun at the second person.
Highbury reopened following multi-vehicle collision Sunday
London police are investigating after a three-vehicle crash closed a busy road Sunday morning. The incident happened a bit before 8 a.m. on Highbury Avenue South. According to police, two people from one of the vehicles were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Highbury Avenue South between Scotland Drive and Manning Drive was temporarily closed but has since re-opened. The investigation remains ongoing.

Helicopter flypast Sunday supporting all-star game in Chatham
A CH-147F Chinook helicopter from the Royal Canadian Air Force is scheduled to do a flypast over Fergie Jenkins Field at Rotary Park in Chatham Sunday. The flypast is in support of the Canadian Baseball League All-Star Game and is expected to start around 2:00 p.m. The Royal Canadian Air Force ensures that flights are meticulously planned and closely monitored, with operations subject to weather and flying conditions.
Stratford police lay drug trafficking charges after lengthy investigation
Stratford police have laid a slew of drug trafficking charges after nearly $40 thousand in controlled substances were seized during a months-long investigation. Police began investigating what they dubbed ‘Project Carlos,’ an investigation into the trafficking of controlled substances in the City of Stratford, in the spring of 2026. Police say five people have been arrested since the investigation began in April.
SIU ends probe into rib fractures suffered in Huron OPP custody
The province’s Special Investigation’s Unit (SIU) has ended their investigation into a man’s rib fractures in Huron OPP custody. Direction Joseph Martino found “no reasonable grounds” to believe the officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the injury suffered by a 69-year-old man. On March 4, the man was arrested in relation to an incident at City Hall in Wingham that had occurred in February.
London jobless rate drops for second straight month
The latest job numbers show London’s unemployment rate falling. According to Statistics Canada figures, London’s jobless rate dropped half a percentage point in June, now sitting at 8.2 per cent. It was as high as 9.2 per cent back in April, which was the highest unemployment rate among all larger Canadian cities at the time. The national numbers are trending down as well. Across Canada, unemployment declined a 10th of a per cent on a month-to-month basis, now at 6.5 per cent.

A familiar face in St. Thomas politics is running for mayor this fall. Current Councillor and former mayor Jeff Kohler has announced he’s running for the top job. Kohler made the announcement on social media, saying, “… the next four years are about making sure where you live remains the best to live, work, and raise a family ... If you agree, I ask for your support on October 26th.” He’s served four terms on council and was mayor of the railway city from 2003 to 2006.

Durham regional police recruit killed, another injured, in crash near Ontario Police College
The chief of the Durham Regional Police Service has confirmed that one of its recruits was killed and another seriously injured in a crash near Aylmer, Ont. In a statement, Chief Peter Moreira said the pair were travelling to training at the Ontario Police College (OPC) when the collision occurred. OPP were called to the intersection of Imperial Road and College Line, just a few kilometres west of the OPC, shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Hot, humid weather grips London before storm arrives later this week
It’s another hot day in the city of London, Ont. with plenty of sunshine expected Wednesday. “Temperatures are set to climb into the low 30s and feeling like the upper 30s,” said CTV London Meteorologist Julie Atchison. “We’ll have a cold front coming as we head into your Thursday and that will bring the next opportunity for rainfall.” Atchison says showers are likely Thursday morning, and thunderstorms are possible. One dead after car and transport truck collide near Aylmer
Elgin OPP are investigating a fatal collision between a transport truck and a sedan north of Aylmer, Ont. Police attended the scene at the intersection of College Line and Imperial Road in the Township of Malahide around 11:20 a.m. Tuesday. According to police, one person in the sedan was pronounced dead, and a second person was taken to hospital in critical condition. The transport truck driver was uninjured, police say.
Back-to-back hot and humid days on deck with some pop-up showers possible
Another hot, sunny, and humid day is expected Tuesday across the region. “It’ll start to feel like the mid to upper 30s mix of sun and cloud to mainly cloudy by the afternoon,” said CTV London Meteorologist Julie Atchison. “There’s about a 30 per cent chance of a pop-up shower. It’s going to be hot.” Atchison says the forecast high this week averages out to close to average for this time of year. “We do have a couple of back-to-back days with some heat and humidity,” she added.
Lane restrictions for city-wide streetlight pole replacement
A months-long project to replace City of Windsor streetlight poles begins Monday, and yes, it will affect drivers. There are 123 streetlight poles being reinstalled this summer, with intermittent lane restrictions planned around Windsor. There will be no full road closures related to this project, but drivers are asked to follow posted construction signage and drive with caution in the impacted areas. Pole replacements at each location will take approximately three to six hours to complete.
Fatal ATV crash in Huron County
Huron County OPP say one person has died following a single All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) collision. According to police, the incident happened around 7 p.m. Saturday on Bannockburn Line near Roman Road in the Municipality of Bluewater. Police say emergency services located a heavily damaged ATV and its lone operator, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The 44-year-old man was a resident of Bluewater. The cause of the collision is being investigated.
Glencoe-area tornado upgraded to an EF1
The Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) has upgraded the tornado that touched down in the Glencoe area on Thursday from a preliminary EF0 to an EF1, following a more detailed ground and drone survey. The NTP said this supercell tornado had a path length nearly 10 km long. Long stretch of hot and humid weather begins this week
While no weather alert has been issued yet, “a prolonged period of very hot conditions is expected,” according to Environment Canada. They forecast temperatures will linger in the mid 30s for much of this week. Today, there is a slight chance for some showers this afternoon. Sarnia man charged with attempted murder after break-in arrest
A 48-year-old Sarnia man is facing an attempted murder charge following a police investigation into harassment, a reported break-and-enter, and alleged breaches of court-ordered conditions. According to Sarnia police, the investigation began earlier in 2026 after they were made aware of a pattern of ‘harassment and unwanted communication’ towards the victim. The accused was previously arrested on May 11 and charged with criminal harassment and harassing communications.

One person charged, another outstanding after impersonating police: LPS
The London Police Service (LPS) says they have charged one suspect for impersonating a police officer in the south-east end of the city earlier this week. According to police, the incident happened around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday when two men approached the male victim outside his home on River Road. One of the suspects allegedly claimed to be an officer and told the victim he was under arrest, but the victim was suspicious as the suspects had arrived in a grey Jeep SUV dressed in street clothes.

Deer crashes through Grey County woman’s bedroom window
Owen Sound police were at an apartment complex Sunday in the northwest end of the city for an unrelated matter when they saw a deer in the parking lot. Police say the deer became startled and leapt through a ground-floor window. The unit was occupied by two women, one of whom had been asleep in the bedroom when the deer entered. Police had both women leave the apartment and opened the patio door to give the deer an escape route.

Black smoke billows from London, Ont. rail tie fire
Fire crews attended the scene of a blaze in east London, Ont. Monday afternoon after receiving multiple 911 calls. London fire responded just after 4:30 p.m. to the incident on Elias Street, seeing smoke and flames from a distance. Officials say railway ties coated with oil base preservative was engulfed in flames, resulting in the black smoke. “Crews responded within four minutes, did a great job to prevent any spread to nearby businesses or railway cars,” Deputy Chief Gary Bridge told CTV News.
Local plastic surgeon pleads not guilty as sexual assault trial gets underway
A trial began Monday for a local plastic surgeon charged with sexual assault. Robert Richards, 65, has pleaded not guilty over an incident from Jan. 13, 2023. The court has heard the woman involved in the case had an intimate relationship with Richards. She was the first to testify, “I told him multiple times to stop doing that.” She continued, “I was crying and telling him that’s not what I wanted.” She cannot be identified under a court order.
SIU concludes investigation into woman’s fall from Thames Bridge in London, Ont.
A London, Ont. police officer has been cleared of any wrongdoing in connection with the serious injuries suffered by a 23-year-old woman. According to the province’s Special Investigation’s Unit (SIU), the officer went to the Thames-Oxford Rail Bridge on Jan. 30 of this year after the woman called police to report her intention to jump. An officer approaching the scene saw her on the ledge but was too far away, below the bridge, to intervene before she jumped, the SIU had determined.

Jefferson Blvd reopens following crash
Windsor police had closed Jefferson Boulevard between Coronation and Lassaline avenues for several hours Wednesday due to a collision. Two vehicles were involved in the collision. Police are still investigating, but had reopened the road around 8 p.m. No further details have been made available at this time. London police seek suspect after indecent acts on Richmond Street
London police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man they say committed two indecent acts earlier this month. Police say the incidents happened on May 10 between 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the 500-block of Richmond Street. They received multiple reports that a man was exposing himself. Police searched the area but were unable to locate him, but they did obtain video surveillance.
St. Thomas man dead after multi-vehicle crash on Hwy. 403 in Brant County
A St. Thomas resident is dead after two tractor-trailers and a pickup truck collided in Brant County, near the Oxford County border. The crash took place in the westbound lanes of Highway 403 around 5 p.m. Monday between Rest Acres Road and Middle Townline Road. Police say the deceased was driving one of the tractor-trailers, and the other driver of a tractor-trailer was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the pickup was not injured.
New $100M poultry facility in Woodstock set to create 100 jobs, strengthen Oxford County’s food sector
A new investment into Oxford County’s food sector is creating new jobs and aims to strengthen the province’s agri-food processing capacity. The Ontario government announced Wednesday that Sunrise Farms, a family-owned Canadian poultry business, is investing over $100 million to build a new 155,000-square-foot processing facility in Woodstock. Officials say this investment will create 100 new jobs.
