WASHINGTON -- NASA is preparing to launch its new flagship space telescope on Sunday, embarking on a multi-year mission to create an unprecedented map of the cosmos and shed light on some of the biggest mysteries in physics. A popular Canadian ice cream company is working to ensure as little American ingredients are going into their products as possible, amid the escalating U.S. Canada trade war. Chapman’s Ice Cream, based out of Markdale, says in response to the ongoing trade war, it is working on re-sourcing its ingredients to Canadian companies, or at least, non-U.S. companies. It also promises to do so without asking consumers to pay more for their products between now and March 2028.

British Columbia legislator and Indigenous leader Joan Phillip has died, with Premier David Eby honouring her as an “epic fighter.” The Union of British Columbia Indian Chiefs said in a statement on Friday that the NDP MLA died peacefully Friday afternoon, surrounded by her family, including “the love of her life,” husband Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, their children and grandchildren. “Joan was a fearless warrior and inspirational leader, and we will miss her dearly,” the union said. She was 74.

A popular ski resort just south of the border says its doors will always be open to Canadians, even as the U.S.-Canada trade war continues to intensify. Steve Wright is the general manager of Jay Peak Resort, which sits less than 10 kilometres south of the U.S.-Canada border. NIAMEY, Niger — Dozens of soldiers were killed or arrested after a group of young troops attempted a mutiny in Niger’s capital in what was seen as a major threat to the country’s ruling junta, according to a state television broadcast and analysts. It was the culmination of nearly 24 hours of unrest that appeared to be staged by young soldiers aggrieved over the worsening militant violence under the country’s military junta.

A man was taken to the hospital via emergency run following a stabbing near the Toronto waterfront on Saturday evening, as the hunt is on for a suspect. Toronto police say the incident happened near Queens Quay West and Dan Leckie Way, just west of Bathurst Street. They say they were called to that area just before 7:30 p.m. for reports of a stabbing. There, officers found an adult male victim who had been stabbed.
