We've Freshened Up - TheHumanist.com
Remember when Cracker Barrel changed their logo and the CEO got fired? I’m trying not to have that happen to me. But when I look over our new website – which launched around the first of September – I don’t see risk, I see the future. And that’s because we updated our brand and website the humanist way: we went out and got data about what rising generations of nonreligious Americans valued and needed, and what about our values most spoke to them. And we built from facts, not assumptions.
America First Legal sues our schools for practicing common sense | COMMENTARY Original
Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... Teachers’ jobs are already hard. Now, a far-right legal group representing two parents is suing Anne Arundel County Public Schools to make them harder, by forcing teachers to call home anytime a student uses a nickname. It’s a shameful, stupid lawfare campaign designed to badger schools into becoming more hostile to LGBT students, who don’t need more bullies in their lives.

Religious “Liberty” Commission Just Another Buffoonish Trump Reality Show | Common Dreams
As a kid, I’d ask to stay up late to watch the Celebrity Apprentice. Donald Trump was a master of putting washed-up celebrities in absurd situations: Kevin Jonas fighting with Geraldo Rivera over a TV commercial for a digital scanner. Clay Aiken and Penn Jillette arguing over how to manage a distracted and frenetic Lou Ferrigno while trying to film a viral video to promote a spray mop.

A Boy Called Fish
This article is excerpted from his Welcome remarks at the American Humanist Association’s 2024 Conference in September. LET’S GET THIS out of the way early: Fish is not my given name. My father, Fortney Hillman Stark Jr., rarely used his given name either. Most folks in the humanist and secular movements know him as Pete Stark—the first open atheist in Congress. That was how his family and friends knew him, too.
The Humanist Magazine | Fall 2024
Archive Amy Goodman received the Humanist of the Year Award at the American Humanist Association’s 83rd Annual Conference, held virtually in September 2024. The award recognizes a person of national and international reputation who, through the application of humanist values, has made a significant contribution to the human condition. Amy Goodman...
Fish Stark: LGBTQ kids struggle enough without school board member piling on | COMMENTARY
Every kid deserves to feel safe and welcome at school so they can learn and thrive. Yet a politician in Anne Arundel County is pushing divisive, distracting new rules that would hold teachers back from supporting kids who need it most. The kids are not all right. We see it every day in our families and neighborhoods: Kids struggling with higher levels of depression, anxiety, hopelessness, and suicide than anyone can remember.
