Converging results from cognitive neuroscience and lesion studies suggest that the cerebellar vermis, frequently described as the “limbic cerebellum” plays a key role in emotional cognitive processes. Bipolar disorder symptoms, such as manic or depressive episodes have been reported in patients with vermal lesions. Vermis structural or functional alterations in bipolar disorder have been reported inconsistently and studied separately.
