While female mate choice is well established, mutual choice may play a larger role in mate selection than currently recognized. Assortative mating is a common form of non-random mating in animals that can result from mutual choice. However, few studies address assortative patterns beyond the social pair, potentially overlooking assortativity in the mating pair and in the social environment that shapes reproductive decisions.

The largest cells are orders of magnitude bigger than the smallest cells. Organelle content scales to maintain cell function, with different organelles increasing in volume, length, or number as cells increase in size. Scaling may also reflect functional demands placed on organelles by increased cell size. Amphibians exhibit exceptional diversity in cell size. Using transmission electron microscopy, we analyzed three species whose enterocyte cell volumes range from 228 to 10,593 μm3.

2.3. HIA Including Face Coverings To quantify the health benefits of face masks and respirators in a population, we expand upon HIAs developed to quantify the increased risk and associated health outcomes due to acute exposure to PM2.5. These HIAs are based on epidemiologic studies that link the increased risk of a health outcome to a standard increase in PM2.5 concentration (usually 10 µg m−3).
