What was your first job as a journalist?
Covering local news and human interest stories for my monthly community newspapers, one of which also ran my travel features.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
With an invitation to experience the subject of the pitch.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Anytime. I love what I do, and thus, I never truly "shut off."
What's your favorite drink?
A bourbon Old Fashioned
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Experiencing the world, or when at home, taking long walks with my golden retriever.

The New York Times (specifically Sunday's Metropolitan Diary)
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That it is not really "work." Writing is hard; good writing is really hard.
