Chlamydomonas agloeformis from the Ecuadorian Highlands: Nutrients and Bioactive Compounds Profiling and In Vitro Antioxidant Activity
1. Introduction Microalgae are gaining increasing attention in scientific research as a promising solution to many environmental and economic challenges. They can represent a useful tool to promote the change in people’s eating habits both to improve health and reduce the environmental impact due to the high population growth rates and the resultant demands for essential nutrients [1]. It has been estimated that there are 800,000 species of microalgae and that only 5–10% of these are known [2].
In Vitro Characterization of Antioxidant, Antibacterial and Antimutagenic Activities of the Green Microalga Ettlia pseudoalveolaris
Abstract : Recently, green microalgae have gained importance due to their nutritional and bioactive compounds, which makes them some of the most promising and innovative functional foods. The aim of this study was to evaluate the chemical profile and the in vitro antioxidant, antimicrobial and antimutagenic activity of an aqueous extract of the green microalga Ettlia pseudoalveolaris, obtained from the freshwater lakes of the Ecuadorian Highlands.
