Overbroad AI Export Controls Risk Forfeiting the AI Race
The nation that wins the global AI race will hold decisive military and economic advantages. That’s why President Trump’s January 2025 AI Action Plan declared: “It is the policy of the United States to sustain and enhance America’s global AI dominance in order to promote human flourishing, economic competitiveness, and national security.” However, AI global dominance does not just mean producing the best AI systems.
Mexico’s Judicial Reform Tests American Resolve
Last September, Mexico dismantled one of the pillars that had long made it a reliable destination for foreign investment: an independent judiciary. A last-minute constitutional reform pushed through by outgoing hard-left President Andrés Manuel López Obrador required all 7,000 of the country’s judges to run for election and reduced the qualifications required to serve.
Why Texas—and the Nation—Need Limits on Local Public Nuisance Litigation | Law.com
The U.S. Constitution vests the power to set national policy in the political branches—Congress and the President—not in the courts. Elected officials, accountable to the people, are tasked with balancing competing interests to shape the nation’s course. The judiciary, by contrast, is designed to resolve concrete disputes between parties, not to dictate policy outcomes. The AG agreed and suddenly Scruggs was counsel in one of the biggest “mass-tort” lawsuits in history, effectively representing all 2.7 million residents of Mississippi.

Texas Bar Board Nixes Rehearing of 5th Circuit Ruling that Found Some Programs Unconstitutional
The State Bar of Texas will not ask the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit to reconsider a ruling this month that found it was unconstitutional and violated lawyers’ freedoms of speech and association to force them to pay dues for certain political and ideological bar activities. At a special meeting Monday, the board of the State Bar of Texas voted that it would not file a petition for a panel rehearing in the litigation or a petition for an en banc rehearing. Mindsets and Mental Health
Mental health challenges are on par with physical ones, although the fix is harder to detect because it is often unseen or unrecognized or—if apparent—stigmatized. What to do? The following are not designed to turn the reader into a therapist. They are not designed to help a seriously troubled lawyer or law student needing specialized assistance. Instead, these mindsets are offered as prophylactics, vaccines of a sort, inoculating us all upfront from incipient troubles.
