1 Introduction Molecular switches or molecular machines are chemical moieties possessing mechanical or electronic properties similar to their macroscopic “real world” counterparts. In order to design molecular machines and to establish some “nanomechanical engineering” based on chemistry, molecular building blocks have to be developed, which may be mechanical devices as parts of molecular machines [1].
