LNG Allies Hails Senate Permitting Bill
LNG Allies Hails Senate Permitting Bill LNG Allies Statement on Senate Permitting Reform Bill LNG Allies President and CEO Fred H. Hutchison: “This agreement would give USLNG project sponsors much-needed confidence that an approval, once granted, will not be undone years later in court. Some LNG export terminals and pipelines have been delayed by lawsuits filed long after permits were issued.
Building Long-Term Relationships
Building Long-Term Relationships LNG Allies Dinner Keynote | 09 June 2026 Building Long-Term USLNG Supply Relationships in Europe By Fred H. Hutchison At the end of the first day of the GEF, LNG Allies and the Atlantic Council organized a dinner in the LNG Allies event center in Washington. Fred Hutchison delivered the opening keynote, saying: Europe enters the second half of 2026 in a precarious position. A ban on Russian gas molecules is coming into effect.
EUMR Issue Update - OIES Paper
EUMR Issue Update – OIES Paper OIES | Maria Olczak | June 2026 How Is the EU Methane Emissions Regulation Implemented in Practice? The EU Methane Emissions Regulation (MER), in force since August 2024, establishes a framework for monitoring, reporting, and verification of methane emissions from fossil fuel imports, with a methane intensity standard for imports phasing in by 2030.
Slaying the Dependency Dragon
Slaying the Dependency Dragon On the eve of their Global Energy Forum, the Atlantic Council’s Energy Source published my op-ed pushing back on the Kremlin’s narrative that by turning to USLNG, “Europe has simply traded one energy dependency for another.” (Yes, there is proof that this argument originated from Moscow in 2022!) Russia’s argument, I wrote, collapses under scrutiny.

How Much Shale Is Left?
A new data-file from Thunder Said Energy puts numbers on a question that matters for long-term USLNG supply: how much of the world’s shale resource base has actually been produced? The answer, across more than 20 basins, is not much. 11% of U.S. shale resources have been produced overall, but the picture varies sharply by basin. The Bakken and Eagle Ford are now as mature as Norway’s offshore fields.
EUMR Issue Update
EUMR Issue Update Reuters | 28 May 2026 EU Plans Three-Year Waiver on Methane Penalties Kate Abnett reports: The European Commission drafted a recommendation asking member states to waive penalties for oil and gas companies that breach the EU Methane Regulation in 2027, 2028, and 2029, except for “large-scale fraudulent breaches.” The waiver would apply to existing contracts and those signed or renewed before January 2028.
The Empty Quadrant
Todd Moss reports: No country with average income above $30,000 uses fewer than 4,000 kWh per person. The upper-right quadrant of the income-vs-electricity scatterplot is fully occupied. The lower-right—high income, low electricity—is empty, and stays empty no matter how efficient appliances get. Energy Hub founder Todd Moss puts a name to that reality and a number on the scale of what it means: rich countries use, on average, 67 times the electricity of poor ones.
Lock Congress in Independence Hall and don’t let them out until they reach permitting reform deal
From May to July 1776, delegates from 13 disparate colonies sat in a stuffy room in Philadelphia, windows sealed against eavesdroppers, sweating through coarse wool coats in the summer heat. They disagreed about nearly everything. Thomas Jefferson’s elegant and inspired draft was sliced by a quarter in debate. Delegates from the South threatened to walk unless an anti-slavery passage was removed.

Case for Integrated Gas
Case for Integrated Gas Mubadala Energy: Commonwealth LNG and the Case for Integrated Gas Energy Intelligence | 18 May 2026 Mubadala Energy’s Naser Al Hajri frames the firm’s investment in Caturus and the recent FID on Commonwealth LNG as a long-term conviction bet, not a single transaction. His central claim: the world is entering a prolonged stretch of undersupply in reliable, scalable gas infrastructure, and the energy transition raises gas’s importance rather than reducing it.

Build it Now - USLNG
Build it Now Build the Global LNG System Now, Not After the Next Crisis Christopher Guith | Real Clear Energy | 21 May 2026 Guith argues that the Hormuz disruption, which chokes more than 20% of traded LNG, proves energy security is global and that the answer is redundancy, not retreat.

NYT: Qatar LNG Crisis Qatar’s LNG Crisis — And Why It Matters for Europe New York Times, May 14, 2026 A deeply reported piece in today’s NYT lays out the scale of the damage to Qatar’s LNG infrastructure in stark terms. The short version: even if the Strait of Hormuz reopened tomorrow, Qatari LNG exports would remain impaired for months and most likely years.
The “Dependency” Myth
The “Dependency” Myth “Europe Has Not Traded One Dependency for Another.” Written Statement for the Record, Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Subcommittee on Europe and Regional Security Cooperation, Feb. 4, 2026 The claim that European reliance on USLNG represents a new “dependency” comparable to pre-2022 Russian pipeline gas is either a fundamental misunderstanding of energy markets or deliberate disinformation.
EU-U.S. Trade Agreement
EU-U.S. Trade Agreement LNG Allies to President Trump and President von der Leyen: The Historic U.S.-EU Trade Agreement July 31, 2025 The $750 billion U.S.-EU energy commitment at Turnberry drew immediate criticism from analysts who called the numbers unrealistic. LNG Allies disagreed—and said so directly to both presidents. The agreement is far more than a commodity trade deal.

Letter to FT Editor
Letter to FT Editor “The Executive Branch Sets the Tone. It Does Not Control the Molecules.” Letter to the FT Editor, March 24, 2026 When U.S. Ambassador Andrew Puzder warned that Europe risked losing “favourable” access to USLNG if the Turnberry agreement was not ratified without modification, LNG Allies wrote to the FT to set the record straight. USLNG flows under long-term project-specific export authorizations issued by the Sec. of Energy under Section 3 of the Natural Gas Act of 1938.
Norwegian Gas Decline
Norwegian Gas Decline Anne-Sophie Corbeau, Center on Global Energy Policy, Columbia University | SIPA LinkedIn, May 13, 2026 Norway’s approval of three gas field restarts—Albuskjell, Vest Ekofisk, and Tommeliten Gamma—made headlines this week. Anne-Sophie Corbeau of Columbia’s Center on Global Energy Policy offers a useful reality check: at 90-120 million barrels of oil equivalent in gas and condensates, the three fields represent a maximum of 19 bcm over 20 years, or ≈1 bcm/y.

DOMINANCE Act Support
DOMINANCE Act Support LNG Allies Supports the DOMINANCE Act Letter to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, May 12, 2026 The commercial foundation for USLNG as a tool of American statecraft is firmly in place. IEA's Molnar: New Market
IEA’s Molnar: New Market Gergely Molnár, Gas Analyst, International Energy Agency Keynote Address, 7th Budapest LNG Summit, May 7, 2026 The Middle East conflict has fundamentally disrupted the global gas market outlook. IEA Gas Analyst Gergely Molnár reported that global LNG supply grew a strong 10% (29 bcm) in 2025-26, with nearly half coming from a single plant in Louisiana, pushing TTF and JKM prices roughly 25% below prior-year levels through February.

Opinion: You heard me right: Frank Church was a conservative
Idaho’s longest-serving Democratic senator, Frank Church, was born 100 years ago. Church served in the U.S. Senate for 24 years — from 1956 to 1980 — and is often remembered for his liberal positions, most notably his early opposition to the Vietnam War and the investigations that he led into bribery by multinational corporations and privacy abuses by America’s intelligence agencies. What many do not know, or perhaps have forgotten, is that Frank Church was also, in many ways, a conservative.
Streamline the Regulatory Process to Expedite U.S. LNG Exports
U.S. LNG exports have enjoyed strong, bipartisan support stretching back to President Obama’s second term when LNG pioneers convinced then Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz to join them in a leap of faith to authorize long-term natural gas exports. Ernie and the entrepreneurs were right. As a result of the shale revolution, and the U.S. has been able to export the surplus gas via pipelines and LNG tankers. For over a decade, we have been the world’s largest natural gas producer.

US liquefied natural gas is fueling global progress
In 2018, worldwide energy demand grew 2.3 percent – the fastest this decade – while increases in efficiency and coal-to-natural gas switching in power generation also drove emissions reductions. The combination of industry innovation and smart public policy has positioned the U.S. as a go-to supplier of affordable, cleaner-burning energy, which serves as a strategic asset for the economy, the environment and our national security.
In the Global LNG Market, Time and Tide Wait for No Nation
The saying “time and tide wait for no man” has been around for at least eight centuries and is often attributed to St. Marher who, in 1225, said: “And te tide and te time pat tu iboren were, schal beon iblescet.” (Translation: “And the time and season that you were born shall be blessed.”) A slight variant of that ancient expression is — in my view — applicable to the global liquefied natural gas market in 2019: “Time and tide wait for no nation.” This is true because the United States is in...
Helping U.S. LNG Projects Remains Well-Positioned in the Global Market
For starters, the LNG Canada announcement wasn’t a surprise. Much of the gas produced in western Canada would be “stranded” without construction of one or more LNG export terminals on the Pacific Coast (including Oregon), and thus a decision to proceed was always more “when” than “if.” In addition, the global natural gas market is expanding at a phenomenal clip as numerous countries recognize the many virtues of natural gas as an energy resource and a raw material.
LNG legislative endgame nears
Congress is currently on an extended summer break, which lasts through Labor Day, Sept. 5. This hiatus provides an opportune opportunity to reflect upon where the LNG exports legislation stands before the 114th Congress enters the legislative “homestretch.” As readers of Congress Blog are well aware, bills have been pending for several years to bring greater certainty to the process by which the U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) reviews applications to export U. S.
