A new Pew survey finds churchgoers hear about a wide range of political and social issues from the pulpit. Most Americans say at least one political or social issue has come up from the pulpit in the past month -- with abortion, Israel and homosexuality topping the list. Pew Senior Researcher Becka Alper says immigration was also big.

Lake of the Ozarks swimmer in ICU with brain-eating amoeba

An adult is in intensive care with a case of a rare and deadly brain infection caused by the amoeba Naegleria fowleri, according to Missouri health officials. The patient had recently been water skiing at the Lake of the Ozarks. The microscopic, single-celled organism is commonly found in warm, fresh water such as lakes, rivers, and ponds, and thrives in the summer heat.

St. Luke's closing Des Peres hospital

Sad news for workers at St. Luke's Hospital in Des Peres. They just got word Monday that the hospital will be closing its doors come August 1st. KMOX Health Editor Fred Bodimer in our 10 a.m. news was first to report this. St. Luke's officials say the 143 bed hospital has faced persistently low utilization and increasing financial pressures and its operation as an acute care facility no longer was viable.
