1 Introduction When humans settle in natural or seminatural landscapes, their interactions with the environment inevitably affect both the settled area and its surrounding landscape. Examples include an increased rate of anthropogenic footprints such as wildfire ignitions [1], fragmentation effects on urban and peri-urban wildlife [2], spread of diseases between humans, domestic and wild animals [3] and local establishment and spread of invasive plants [4].
