DNA links Fayetteville murder suspect to 3 unsolved sex assaults

A Fayetteville murder suspect has been linked by DNA to three unsolved sexual assaults from 2018 and 2022. Raeqwon Mitchell Carlisle was already in custody for the October 2023 murder of Crystal Michelle Loughran. The new charges stem from attacks where women were strangled, raped, and in one case, stabbed and left for dead. Investigators used the national DNA database, CODIS, to connect Carlisle to the cold cases after his arrest for murder.

New Fayetteville assistant chief named in 7 civil-rights suits | Exclusive

A newly appointed Fayetteville assistant police chief was named in seven federal civil-rights lawsuits during his time in Chicago. The complaints generally involved groups of officers and did not attribute specific misconduct to the assistant chief individually. The lawsuits, filed between 2002 and 2022, included allegations of excessive force, false arrest and illegal searches. All seven lawsuits were settled for a total of $585,000, with no admission of wrongdoing or finding of liability.

Cumberland jury hears Baby Macy murder case 10 years after toddler's death

More than six years after her first murder trial ended with a hung jury in the death of her 2-year-old daughter, a Cumberland County jury began hearing testimony last week in the retrial of Jeanie Kassandra Ditty. Ditty, 33, is charged with first-degree murder and felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury in the death of Macy Grace Ditty, known publicly as Baby Macy. At the time of her arrest, Ditty was an active-duty soldier at Fort Bragg.
