Splore happened last weekend despite the weather. Our intrepid reporter Gab McDonnell was there to catch the vibe. After a two year absence taking us back to the biennial years of one of Aotearoa’s most loved festivals, Splore finally returned to the ataahua shores of Tapapakanga Regional Park last weekend. And what a weekend it was! I think anyone can agree that this summer hasn’t been anything quite like what comes to mind when one thinks of summer.

Dope Lemon graced the Auckland Town Hall as part of this year’s musically ambitious Elemental Nights Concert Series. “Magical” is the first word that pops to mind when witnessing the smooth sounds of Angus Stone and his delightfully talented entourage of fellow musicians that make up Dope Lemon. From the moment we arrived the atmosphere was charged and it was incredible to see the Lemons music extend to people of all ages and various walks of life.

Held at the iconic Auckland Town Hall, Th’ Dudes proved they’ve still got it with an incredible set that had the crowd pulsing and left them with raspy voices after singing along to every word. The kiwi legends also showed off they’re exquisite taste with their choice of a support act, the sensational rock ‘n’ roll groove of Auckland based Racing. Opening with the very fitting hit Right First Time, Th’ Dudes belted out an unforgettable opening number that had the audience demanding more.
