1 Introduction Interception loss, the evaporation of water from plant surfaces wetted by precipitation, represents a significant water efflux globally (Miralles et al. 2010; Zhong et al. 2022) and can even represent the fate of most precipitation in certain environments (Schellekens et al. 1999). Canopy storage capacity (S), the depth of water required to saturate a canopy, represents the maximum amount of water available for evaporation from a saturated canopy (Ghimire et al. 2017).
