1 Introduction Plastic mulching is typically used in agriculture to increase yields, reduce herbicide application, promote an earlier harvest, reduce erosion, and improve fruit quality by avoiding ground contact (Poling 2016; Steinmetz et al. 2016). These benefits have made plastic mulching the most common mulching technique and outperformed conventional straw mulching (Qin et al. 2015; Dong et al. 2018).
