CBI calls for economic reset that ‘delivers social progress’ in the UK
The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has unveiled plans to kick off “a decade of better economic growth and social solidarity”, describing 2021 as a “defining opportunity to reset the UK economy”. Seize the moment: how can business transform the UK economy? was published yesterday by the influential employers’ organisation, which represents 190,000 UK businesses employing nearly 7m people.
ESE does it: How to build a regional social enterprise ecosystem
The south-west of England is well-known for its debate about the order of toppings on small baked goods – scones. But this hides a multi-faceted region with a rich variety of activities, from seaside tourism and naval bases to a rich and diverse rural economy. The Heart of the South West local enterprise partnership (LEP) – a voluntary partnership between local authorities and businesses – covers Devon, Plymouth, Somerset and Torbay (see map).
New economy ‘influencers’: Three ways social enterprises are shaping capitalism
Social enterprises’ efforts to influence mainstream businesses can help drive the transition to a more sustainable economy, a new report shows. When we 'build back better', should we be angry?
There is lots of rhetoric around right now about rebuilding post Covid-19 with a better economy. We all hope for kinder, fairer, more inclusive, environmentally enhancing policies for the future. How might we achieve this?
Cash, confidence and creating a buzz: a Social Enterprise City five years on
I can clearly remember hearing the BBC Breakfast News one summer’s day in 2013, announcing the UK’s very first ‘social enterprise place’ – Alston Moor in Cumbria. Social Enterprise UK (SEUK) was looking for more hotspots of social enterprise activity under their Places scheme: towns, cities and regions that could help make the public more aware of social enterprise. After Alston Moor, a village of 2,000 inhabitants, the search was on for larger candidates. Plymouth nearly didn’t make it.
