Epigenetic control of telomeric RNA maintains heterochromatin in telomerase-driven cancers
Abstract Tumor heterogeneity presents a major clinical challenge. Reactivation of telomerase (hTERT) is a near-universal hallmark of cancer, yet direct inhibition of hTERT has shown limited therapeutic benefit. To uncover tractable telomerase-related vulnerabilities, we applied a synthetic dosage lethality (SDL) strategy to identify genes required only when hTERT is overexpressed.
Frontiers | The 41BB-agonist potentiates the therapeutic efficacy of a combined irreversible electroporation ablation treatment of lung cancer by promoting unexpected CD8+CD103+ cDC1 and tissue-resident memory T cell responses
Introduction Irreversible electroporation (IRE) is a new, non-thermal form of cancer ablation technology that delivers short bursts of current to induce irreversible, nano-sized holes in cell membranes, leading to broad tumor cell apoptosis (1, 2).

Trust and world view in shared decision making with indigenous patients: A realist synthesis
Abstract Introduction How shared decision making (SDM) works with indigenous patient values and preferences is not well understood. Colonization has affected indigenous peoples' levels of trust with institutions, and their world view tends to be distinct from that of nonindigenous people. Building on a programme theory for SDM, the present research aims to refine the original programme theory to understand how the mechanisms of trust and world view might work differently for indigenous patients.
Creation of a new clinical framework - why women choose mastectomy versus breast conserving therapy
We present a conceptual framework that we have created to illustrate the central domains that influence women’s choice between mastectomy versus BCT (Fig.). These have been organized into three broad constructs: clinicopathological factors, physician factors, and individual factors with subgroups of sociodemographic, geographic, and individual belief factors.
Metformin inhibits the development, and promotes the resensitization, of treatment-resistant breast cancer
Multiple drug resistant (MDR) malignancy remains a predictable and often terminal event in cancer therapy, and affects individuals with many cancer types, regardless of the stage at which they were originally diagnosed or the interval from last treatment.
Can a supervised algorithmic assessment of men for prostate cancer improve the quality of care? A retrospective evaluation of a prostate assessment pathway in Saskatchewan | Liu | Canadian Urological Association Journal
Introduction: The Saskatoon Prostate Assessment Pathway (SPAP) was developed in 2013 in part to decrease the wait times between physician referral and biopsy for patients with suspected prostate cancer. Using an algorithm carefully designed to optimize appropriate prostate biopsy rates, physicians can directly refer patients for biopsy through the SPAP without seeing a urologist. All other patients are referred to the Saskatoon Urology Associates (SUA).
