What was your first job as a journalist?
I got paid to write a few freelance articles for a small NJ site before signing on with FanRag Sports as a sophomore in college.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Peter Parker (photojourno) -- though he's not the most ethical.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
It means being an inquisitive truth teller. That applies to any beat and style of journalism.
Why did you become a journalist?
I'm bad at math & science is complicated. I was always a good writer in school and I like talking to interesting people.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I did not. I'm not sure my HS even had one. I started a blog my Jr. year of HS and wrote for the school paper as soon as I got to college.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Don't be afraid to reach out directly. That includes interviews, asking questions and for advice, pitching ideas and hunting down jobs.
