The Last Thing He Fixed By the time Walter Dean reached sixty-eight, folks around town no longer asked if he could fix something—they asked when he could come by. A door that refused to latch. A fence leaning and broken. A washing machine unbalanced and trembling as if it were anxious. A porch rail softened by years. He moved from one small rescue to another, carrying a sturdy canvas tool bag and a pencil snug behind his ear, as if being helpful had become his vocation.

Blessing the Next Generation
As I sat at my desk reflecting on two of the most difficult but rewarding years of my life as an interim dean at a well-known university, I pondered on how best to end my “tour of duty” in a God-honoring fashion and promote the unity of the school and the success of the next dean.
Did Doc Kill Ringo?
Once and for all, historians set the record straight on the tragic demise of the legendary gunfighter. July 2, 1882 John Ringo has decided to move to Tombstone (he has been living in San Simon and Galeyville). He arrives in town and meets Editor Sam Purdy of the Epitaph, who later writes of their talk: “He said that he was as certain of being killed as he was of living then.
The Will of McLaury
This story by Paul Lee Johnson won the Wild West History Association’s 2014 Six-Shooter Award for best article in a general Western publication. It appeared in the October 2013 edition of Wild West. Was Wyatt Earp Really a Deputy U.S. Marshal?
Wyatt Earp, who has become controversial since his fictionalization by television, did serve in both Dodge City and Tombstone as a legally appointed deputy marshal. True West presents the proof with these findings of a revealing probe into government records and the words of a man who knew Earp personally. The question of whether Wyatt Earp was a bona fide U.S. marshal or an imposter has been asked many times and still is being asked by readers of True West and Frontier Times.
The Split - True West Magazine
Almost five years had passed since the gas-lit world of saloons and gambling halls brought Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday together in Texas. They appear to have enjoyed each other’s company from the outset, but on the night of September 19, 1878, in Dodge City, Kansas, the bond between them was sealed when Doc saved Wyatt’s life in “a scrimmage” with Texas drovers that left one man with a bandaged head and a soldier shot in the leg.
The Earp Rap Sheet

Doc Holliday, the Earps’ Strangest Ally
‘An injudicious and censurable act’ was how Justice Wells Spicer described Virgil Earp’s decision to involve the notorious gambler in a deadly street fight. One hundred and twenty-five years ago, on October 26, 1881, John Henry “Doc” Holliday joined the Earp brothers, Virgil, Wyatt and Morgan, on their walk into legend down Tombstone, Arizona Territory’s Fremont Street to the fateful encounter remembered as the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral.
Doc Holliday’s Lost Colorado Years
When Doc Holliday reached Colorado near the end of April 1882, he was certain that he was safe. He openly told reporters that he and the rest of Wyatt Earp’s posse would never be prosecuted because of arrangements with Arizona authorities. He most likely would have been right had a two-bit con man named Perry Mallon not “arrested” him on a trumped up charge in Denver.

The Real "Doc" Holliday
In the 1993 movie Tombstone, Doc Holliday (portrayed by actor Val Kilmer) is depicted as a good guy at heart, helping Wyatt Earp to keep order and law in the dangerous old west town of Tombstone, Arizona. As is the case with Earp, there is a mound of evidence that the real Doc Holliday wasn’t nearly so squeaky clean. Here is the truth behind the legend of the “slickest gunslinger in the west,” Doc Holliday.
Six year old boy receives Chief Constable's Commendation
A six-year-old boy from Port Erin has become the youngest person ever to receive a Chief Constable’s Commendation. The youngster tried to get help from a neighbour but couldn’t get through the gate – he was also unable to use the phones in the house due to child-locks. Roberts: Bradley statement concerning Bill Cosby
Gary Roberts I want to be absolutely clear. Bill Cosby’s behavior toward women over apparently much of his adult life is detestable. He has now been convicted of only one of apparently scores of criminal acts that he has credibly been accused of committing.
