This year’s Independence Day is a special event as America celebrates 250 years since the Continental Congress formally signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Communities across the region will celebrate the event with festivities that include fireworks displays. Events begin with the Marrowbone Volunteer Fire Department fireworks show and community bazaar on Saturday, June 27.

The proposed 2026/2027 fiscal year budget for the city of Coal Run was presented for a first reading during the city commission meeting on June 11. Mayor Andrew Scott presented the proposed budget to the commission. “Really, this proposed budget is very close to last year’s budget,” Scott said.

The Pikeville City Commission heard a first reading of the proposed budget for the coming fiscal year and heard a presentation about safety improvements on Hambley Boulevard during its meeting on June 8. In addition, one agenda item concerning the proposed data center was tabled. That item called for a request to authorize and approve a Jackson Kelly Law Engagement letter regarding legal services related to a potential data center development agreement.
