Can an Employer Be Liable if a Client Harasses an Employee?
What happens when your client is the problem? Consider this scenario. A junior employee regularly attends meetings with an important client. A senior person at the client begins making sexual comments towards them. The employee eventually tells their manager. The manager replies: “Unfortunately, that’s just what he’s like. He’s our biggest client, so try not to take it personally.” That response should now set alarm bells ringing.

Next Wins Equal Pay Appeal
Retailer Next has been successful in an appeal against an Equal Pay ruling comparing it’s warehouse staff with it’s in store staff. Under equal pay legislation it is unlawful to pay men and women different rates of pay for the same work but also work ‘rated as equivalent value’. It is this assessment of equivalent work which often proves most contentious as in this instance store staff sought to argue that their work was similar to that carried out in the warehouse, where staff were paid more.

The Jet Had a Glitch. Was It Mechanical Error, Pilot Error, or Something Dumber? Original
The Air Force ran on forms, acronyms, and the occasional act of faith. Most problems came to us via work order: a few scrawled words, a tail number, a location on the flight line, and a set of boxes waiting for signatures. The paper didn’t have much personality, but the people who filled it out sure did. Sometimes the planes did too.

One thing we Arkansans frequently boast about (besides barbecue and infrequent but widely celebrated All-SEC/Player of the Year guards) is that we are blessed with four distinct weather seasons.
Colleges could go tuition-free if their endowment-fund managers just invested in this stock index
Last year,I proposed a straightforward solutionto the crisis in higher education: Phase out teachers and students as colleges transition from educating students to helping administrators move up the administrator ladder. Administrators decide whether to hire administrators or faculty and it is not surprising that they prioritize themselves.
AI isn’t replacing jobs. AI spending is
Big spending on artificial intelligence puts pressure on jobs, as gloomy narratives about the future of work are ironically making new graduates less employable. AI isn’t replacing jobs. AI spending is
For decades now, we have been told that artificial intelligence systems will soon replace human workers. Sixty years ago, for example, Herbert Simon, who received a Nobel Prize in economics and a Turing Award in computing, predicted that “machines will be capable, within 20 years, of doing any work a man can do.” More recently, we have Daniel Susskind’s 2020 award-winning book with the title that says it all: A World Without Work.
Employment Rights Bill Update
On 28 October the House of Lords held further debates about the Employment Rights Bill. Having previously had most of their amendments rejected by the House of Commons it was anticipated that the House of Lords would accept those rejections and allow the Bill to move through to receive Royal Assent.

ChatGPT will have a hard time answering this question about AI
By Jeffrey Funk and Gary Smith Where's the beef? Plenty of money but no profits are a setup for the 'AI-slop' bubble to end badly. AI disappointments in business have created is a new term: "AI slop," or low-quality, error-prone content. The investment value of a stock comes from the cash flow it generates. Speculators, in contrast, care not a whit for cash flow; they are focused instead on future stock prices.

Relationships at Work
With the news this week of Nestle boss Laurent Freixe being dismissed as CEO of Nestle due to having an affair with a junior employee, the fraught issue of relationships between colleagues has hit the headlines again. This is yet another case following on from similar incidents at BP, McDonalds and many others. But what as an employer can you realistically do to manage relationships at work and is it an issue anyway?
AI stocks are in a bubble. Why are so many investors refusing to believe it?
By JeffreyFunk and Gary Smith AI companies are raising prices and alienating users, and the stocks are overvalued Like professional wrestling, the reality of AI doesn't match the perception. A well-known Silicon Valley mantra is "Get big or get lost." The idea is that many markets are essentially winner take all - a handful of companies will dominate the market because of daunting economies of scale, allowing the survivors to reap huge profits without fear of competitors entering the market.

The Art of Conversation
Gary C Smith · Follow 3 min read · -- The Art of Conversation Conversation is a form of interactive, spontaneous communication between two or more people. Typically, it occurs in spoken communication, as written exchanges are usually not referred to as conversations. Referred to as informal, the ability to form a conversation has lost its form and popularity to texting. I want to take back the art form.

Is Trump's bitcoin embrace the biggest 'pump-and-dump' ever?
By Jeffrey Funk and Gary Smith The U.S. government buying bitcoin at inflated prices would do nothing to pay off America's debt Is there a bigger fool than the federal government? Who will the government sell trillions of dollars of bitcoin to? There is an apocryphal story of an investor, "Sam," who became enamored of a lightly traded stock.
