Abstract The chemical evolution of Earth’s mantle is governed by the interplay between primordial reservoirs formed during accretion and recycled components introduced by subduction. While helium and hydrogen isotopic anomalies strongly suggest the existence of primordial deep-water reservoirs, the mineral hosts capable of sequestering hydrogen during crystallization of basal magma ocean remain elusive.
