1 Introduction Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM), commonly referred to as myositis, are a heterogeneous group of autoimmune diseases characterized by chronic muscle inflammation and progressive muscle weakness. The incidence of IIM is estimated to range from 0.2 to 2 cases per 100 000 person-years, with a prevalence of 2–25 cases per 100 000 person-years [1].
