Agriculture Commissioner Andy Gipson, a Republican candidate for governor next year, says he’s concerned the proliferation of data centers in Mississippi puts the state at risk and that he’s hearing major concerns about data centers and AI from Mississippians as he campaigns across the state. Gipson said data centers and the AI boom are being funded by debt and “circular financing,” similar to what happened with other tech before the dot-com bubble burst in the early 2000s.

Attorney General Lynn Fitch said she and other Mississippi officials are joining the Trump administration to fight fraud and “protect American taxpayers from … grift” “With the support of the U.S. Department of Justice, my office is standing up Joint Task Force Vigilance with our two U.S. attorneys and the FBI to surge resources and personnel to make Mississippi safer, protect Mississippi taxpayers and restore law and order,” Fitch said in a press release.

LaTosha Brown and other voting rights advocates sprang into action after Georgia Republican Gov. Brian Kemp on May 13 called a special session to redraw the state’s congressional and legislative maps in ways that could erode Black voters’ ability to shape election outcomes. “Ultimately, pain births new possibilities,” said Brown, the co-founder of Black Voters Matter.
