Veteran gets treated to poppy display on Remembrance Sunday The UK’s oldest Second World War Veteran has been honoured this Armistice Day with a display of hundreds of handmade poppies at his care home. Donald Rose, who turns 110 this year, was one of the first soldiers onto the beaches in Normandy during the D-Day landings before fighting in North Africa as one of the illustrious ‘Desert Rats’.

Two arrested on suspicion of murder after human torso found in Kersal

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a torso was found at a Salford nature reserve. The body parts, including the buttocks and torso of a man, were found in clear plastic by a passer-by at the Kersal Dale woodlands on April 4. Two men, who police say are known to each other, were arrested yesterday (April 25). Officers stormed a bus on Eccles Old Road and arrested a 42-year-old man. Later that day a 68-year-old man was arrested on Worsley Road.

Kersal crime scene reopens weeks after remains found

A crime scene at Kersal Dale Wetlands has reopened in Salford, weeks after a human torso was found there. The remains, including the buttocks, lower back and thigh, were found on April 4 by a passer-by. Specialist officers believed the man to be white, around 40 and to have only been dead for a number of days.
