But he's right to call out those who control it, writes George Pitcher Along with very many people who are not Roman Catholics, I like Pope Leo XIV a lot. His casual disdain for president Donald Trump and his moral superiority in declining to rise to Trump’s stupid lie that Iran developing a nuclear weapon is “just fine” by Leo are a joy to behold. For Anglicans and Protestants and for many of other faiths and of none he’s the spiritual inspiration the world needs in moral meltdown.

They need to be given hope by our political leaders, writes George Pitcher It’s the millennials I feel sorry for. They’re a generation that just seems to be facing some really big challenges for their age, struggling a bit, not having much fun. I should declare an interest. I’m father to four of them, between the ages (exactly) of 30 and 40. And, before we proceed, I don’t want to sound ungrateful on their behalf.

People bang on about “psychodrama” when a prime minister is under pressure to resign. But it’s really not that. It’s more like Groundhog Day. Or rather a series of Groundhog Weeks, as if caught in a news-cycle time loop. We decide the PM is useless. He/she declares that they’re determined to finish the job for which they were elected. They stumble on, while everyone knows (including them) what’s going to happen.
