Meta is planning a $10 billion subsea cable project spanning 40,000 kilometres around the world, according to a new report from TechCrunch, citing two confirmed sources close to the company. Known for now as “W” in reference to its shape, this new system will be Meta’s first fully owned global subsea cable, connecting the east coast of the US to South Africa, India, Australia, and ultimately the west coast of America.

FCC Launches First Review of Submarine Cable Rules Since 2001

A new Notice of Proposed Rulemaking adopted by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will begin a review of the regulations surrounding submarine cables. The rulemaking notice, approved Nov. 21 by the FCC, will now seek public comment regarding how the commission can streamline the rules around submarine cables to ensure efficient deployment. According to the FCC’s release following the vote, the agency has not conducted a major review of submarine cable rules since 2001.

Aqua Comms Upgrades AEC-1 Subsea Network
