Georgi Kantchev’s Biography

Georgi Kantchev is a foreign correspondent for The Wall Street Journal covering the intersection of geopolitics, economics and energy in the Middle East.

Previously, Georgi was stationed in Berlin, writing about the global implications of the Ukraine war. Earlier, he was based in Moscow, writing about Russia, the region and the conflict in Ukraine. Georgi joined the Journal in London in 2014, where he covered energy and financial markets.

In 2025, Georgi was a Pulitzer Prize finalist and winner of the Overseas Press Club of America award as part of a Journal team investigating Russia's police state. He was a finalist for the Loeb Award in 2017.
