1 Introduction and Objectives Following the invention of the first silicon-based solar cells in 1954, Bell Laboratories fabricated the first silicon PV module designed for outdoor applications in 1955. This initial module featured cells encapsulated in silicone oil within a plastic case. However, the outdoor exposure of the prototype was limited to just 5 months after its installation in 1956 [1].
