‘Common Sense and Independence’
To the Editor: On Tuesday, November 3rd, I will be supporting Barbara Labriola for State Representative of the 23rd District. I have gotten to know Barbara and have seen firsthand her commitment to our community and the people who call the 23rd District home. She understands that being a State Representative is about listening to constituents, standing up for our communities, and making sure our voices are heard in Hartford.
How Authors Weave Real-Life Detail Into Their Mysteries
You have to admire those authors who seamlessly weave real-life background into their books without turning the story into a history lesson, a travelogue or a CV. And believe me, I pay attention to how other writers manage to meld unique careers, historical background and rich settings into the narrative because if done well, detail is what makes a good book better.

Hooked on Mysteries with Quirky Characters and Curious Careers
It was at a small writer’s workshop in New York City when one of the instructors, Paula Munier (senior agent for Talcott Notch Literary Services and the USA Today bestselling author of the Mercy Carr mystery series) introduced a literary agent to our group of twenty. The idea was to pitch our work to the agent in hopes he might want to represent one of us.

Ridgefield resident supports Board of Education candidates Wyatt Lipman, Jon Paradiso
To the Editor: If there is one place this season to put politics aside, it is on the Board of Education and Wyatt Lipman and Jon Paradiso exemplify the phrase—putting our children first. What struck me about the message that these two Democratic Board of Education candidates advocate is that they will tell you they are not running against other candidates. They are running for the children, the teachers and the administrators who depend on strong partners to support them.
Working For You
Although summer does not officially end until Saturday, Sept. 23, we have seen the unofficial end with the passing of Labor Day. Despite more rain than many of us wanted to see, our Old Saybrook summer was great. It kicked off with a rousing Memorial Day Parade in May; the excitement continued with our first annual Celebrate Street Party in June, concerts on the green, summer movie nights, and the return of our farmers market.
068 Feature - The Busy Life of Richard Scarry - May/June -

Energy Efficient Homes Can Save Money and Your Health
Net zero, Passive House, LEED Platinum—why are these building certifications important? Consider the nearly completed contemporary farmhouse on St. John’s Road in Ridgefield that will soon earn all these distinctions. At 4000 square feet of energy efficient living space, the house will cost approximately $18 a month to heat, cool and electrify. It’s the Tesla of tech: it comes with all sorts of cool devices that can be operated right from a cell phone app, including a fresh air flow system.
