1 Introduction Phage therapy involves the administration of bacteriophages (or phages) to eliminate pathogenic bacterial cells. Each type of phage will generally target a particular strain or narrow range of closely related bacterial strains, dependent on their ability to bind to specific bacterial cell membrane receptor molecules (Ranveer et al. 2024) and overcome host defences (Díaz-Muñoz and Koskella 2014).
