I came to the United States from North Sudan in 2016. I was accompanied by my wife, Manal, and our four children, Mohmed, Ahmad, Retag and Elhadi. We first stayed in Alexandria, Va. A friend in Grand Island told me that if I have two hands, I can work in Grand Island — even if I can’t speak English. I said, OK. The people in Grand Island are very nice. We flew from Virginia to Dallas and then to Grand Island. The first time we every saw snow was when we landed in Grand Island.
