Gia Mora

Gia Mora is a writer, performer, and producer telling stories that help build a compassionate, equitable, and sustainable future for all—often set to a killer dance beat. A lifelong environmentalist and longtime vegan, Gia’s essays and journalism have appeared in the Los Angeles Times, the Huffington Post, Treehugger, Modern Farmer, Business Insider, and more. Her most recent music video, “Take Some Action (to Get Some Action),” her short film “Me and Ma’ii” (quarter-finalist, 2023 Golden Scripts Competition), and her newsletter Animal Matters all focus on easy, everyday ways we can all take climate action.

In addition to composing music for films, podcasts, comedy shows, and Minnesota Public Radio, her critically acclaimed one-woman musical comedy "Einstein's Girl" played to sold-out crowds across the country. She co-created and -starred in the comedy pilot “Anchors Away” with Tara Jean O’Brien (screenings at the Hollywood Reel Independent and Lift-Off Film Festivals), and with SCIRENS, she co-created “Scirens Show” as well as the comedy pilot “MOMs” (semi-finalist, NY Television Festival Scripts Contest).

Her film and TV credits include “The Night” (IFC), “True Detective” (HBO), and “Baskets” (FX). Now semi-retired from acting, she won Best Actress at the 2024 Gladiator Film Festival for her work in “The Last Act,” directed by Cannes-award winner Shahab Hosseini.

A 2024 fellow with Climatebase (named an Innovator in Cohort 5) and Count Us In, Gia serves on the Climate Tech Advisory Board for Dashboard.Earth, holds a diploma in Italian language and culture from the University of Pisa, and graduated with honors from the University of Colorado.

As a person living with multiple chronic illnesses, she cares deeply about personal and planetary health. When she’s not creating, she’s living a a low-impact life along the Los Angeles River on the ancestral land of the Tongva with her partner Denny and their adopted kitties, Wamba and Giacomo.
